72-Year-Old Man Killed in Highway 101 Car Accident

SAN MARTIN, CA (April 26, 2023) – Thursday morning, a solo-car crash on Highway 101 claimed the life of an elderly man and left his female passenger injured. The fatal incident occurred around 11:54 a.m. along the southbound 101, south of the East Middle Avenue overpass. According to reports, a southbound 2000 Lexus compact SUV in the far left lane veered out of control for unknown reasons. The vehicle then overturned and collided with a metal guardrail. Responding emergency personnel declared the 72-year-old male driver died at the scene. However, his identity has not been released pending notification from the next of kin. Police said that both occupants were from Del Rey Oaks, near Monterey. Paramedics transported his 73-year-old female passenger to a hospital after suffering significant injuries.
