Two Pronounced Dead after Red-Light Collision near District Boulevard
BAKERSFIELD, CA (June 21, 2023) – Thursday night, a man died and a woman sustained injuries in a red-light accident on Gosford Road.
Police responded to the scene around 10:41 p.m., near District Boulevard on June 8th.
Per reports, the driver of a vehicle ran a red light and struck another car at the intersection. Upon impact, the first vehicle lost control and crashed into a tree in the center median.
Witnesses attempted to help extricate the driver from the vehicle. First responders arrived shortly after and began CPR on the victim. Due to the extent of injuries sustained, crews eventually pronounced the male driver dead at the scene.
Meanwhile, medics took the driver of the other involved vehicle, only identified as a woman, to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Following preliminary duties, officers believe that speed was a contributing factor. However, an active investigation is still currently underway.
