Pickup Vs SUV Collision near Las Palmas Road Left 79-Year-Old Man Dead

SALINAS, CA (February 12, 2024) – Sunday afternoon, a two-vehicle crash on River Road left a man dead and a woman injured.

The fatal collision occurred around 2:40 p.m. along River Rd, just south of Las Palmas Road.

According to CHP, a southbound 2024 Audi Q8 crossed over the double yellow lines and entered the northbound lanes for unknown reasons.

As a result, a Ford F-350 traveling in the opposite direction swerved right to avoid the oncoming Audi. Investigators mentioned that the Ford overturned into the dirt embankment, leading to fatal injuries for the driver.

The 79-year-old man operating the Ford from Pacific Grove was pronounced dead at the scene. Meanwhile, paramedics transported his 73-year-old female passenger to Natividad Medical Center for significant injuries.

Furthermore, the identities of all parties have not been released at this time.

Police said the 68-year-old Salinas woman driving the Audi did not sustain injuries. Intoxication is not suspected to be a factor in the collision.
