Pedestrian Fatally Struck on Central Avenue

COMPTON, CA (August 8, 2022) – Early Monday morning, a pedestrian crash on 91 Freeway claimed the life of a man.

The incident happened at around 12:16 a.m. when a person contacted the California Highway Patrol to report that they had struck another person on the westbound Gardena Freeway near Central Avenue.

Emergency personnel was dispatched to the site of the accident and the responding officials declared the pedestrian dead at the scene.

At this time, the identities of those involved in the crash have not been made public, pending further investigation and notification of next of kin.

Meanwhile, the involved driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigators.

CHP then issued a SigAlert to shut down all westbound lanes. All lanes reopened around 4:00 a.m.

Compton officials are continuing to investigate the 91 Freeway pedestrian crash. Those with further information are encouraged to contact local authorities as soon as possible.
