1 Dead after Fatal ATV Accident near Highway 49

SIERRA COUNTY, CA (June 27, 2022) – Wednesday, a man was killed and Megan McHugh was hurt in an ATV crash on Belle Street.

Officers responded to the scene on June 22, after receiving multiple dispatch calls in the area.

Investigators said a driver lost control of an ATV for DUI related reasons and crashed on Bell Street, just off Highway 49.

The 56-year-old male ATV driver sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene. Although, their identity has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.

Meanwhile, Megan McHugh sustained injuries from the accident. Investigators say both occupants were not wearing their helmets when the vehicle rolled over.

Crews closed off the surrounding area for a brief time during cleanup and preliminary duties.

No further details regarding the crash are public at this time; however, authorities believed that DUI played a factor in the incident.
