SR-67 Head-On Collision Involving Big-Rig Left One Driver Dead

POWAY, CA (October 13, 2021) – A deadly head-on crash on the northbound SR-67 left one driver dead last Friday, CHP said.

Officers responded to the incident just after 1 p.m. on State Route 67 and Lazy Acres Drive.

Upon arrival, the first responders declared one driver from Lakeside dead at the scene.

According to the investigators, a Honda Accord tried to pass a big-rig while heading northbound on SR-67 south of Scripps Poway Parkway.

Meanwhile, a Toyota Highlander driven by a 44-year-old woman headed southbound with a 19-year-old passenger.

However, the Honda Accord collided with the Freightliner, causing two vehicles to lose control.

As a result, the Honda spun out of control in the southbound lane where it collided head-on with the Toyota.

Ultimately, the three vehicles veered off the road and down a dirt embankment.

The Honda driver sustained major injuries and was transported to Palomar Medical Center where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The Toyota driver suffered from major injuries while the teen passenger received moderate injuries.

In the end, officials closed down the roadway for several hours as the CHP investigated the head-on crash on SR-67.
