18-Year-Old Man Pronounced Dead after Head-On Collision near Greenwood Road

GRASS VALLEY, CA (February 1, 2023) – Monday night, a man was killed and Elise Durgin was hurt in a head-on crash on Rough and Ready Highway.

Police responded to the scene around 5:50 p.m., near Greenwood Road after receiving multiple dispatch calls.

According to reports, an 18-year-old man was driving a westbound vehicle and crossed over the center divider. As a result, the wrong-way vehicle collided head-on with an oncoming Subaru.

Due to the extent of injuries sustained, medics pronounced the male driver, from Auburn dead at the scene. Although, authorities have not yet released his name or place of residency. Investigators also say he wasn’t wearing a seat belt at the time.

In addition, paramedics transported the Subaru driver, 78-year-old Elise Durgin, of Grass Valley to Sutter Roseville Medical Center for further treatment.

Following preliminary duties, authorities ruled out intoxication as a potential factor in the incident. At this time, an active investigation to determine further information is still underway.
