65-Year-Old Man Dies in Vehicle Accident near Lomas Santa Fe

SOLANA BEACH, CA (March 4, 2022) – An electric bicycle crash on Highway 101 claimed the life of a man, early Saturday afternoon.

According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, the incident happened around 12:33 p.m.

Authorities said a 65-year-old man was riding a new e-bike along northbound Highway 101 from Los Santa Fe. The bicyclist attempted to get around a slower cyclist traveling in the same direction.

However, the electric bicycle rider started to wobble and fall into the nearest lane of traffic, ultimately colliding with a slow-moving Dodge truck.

Eventually, the first responders arrived at the scene and transported the man to Scripps Hospital in La Jolla where he succumbed to his injuries.

Meanwhile, the Dodge driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the crash.

La Jolla Officials are asking anyone with information about an electric bicycle accident to contact the Sheriff’s Department non-emergency line at 858-565-5200.
