Bonita Man Killed in Deadly Collision near Interstate 8

SAN DIEGO, CA (September 23, 2021) – Sunday night, a man was fatally struck after exiting his vehicle in a pedestrian crash on Interstate 5.

Initially, the driver of a pickup-truck allegedly lost control and the vehicle rolled over as a result. Officers were dispatched to the scene around 9:00 p.m.

Ultimately, the pickup-truck came to a stop in one of the southbound lanes on the interchange from Interstate 8 to I-5.

The driver exited his vehicle, jumped the center divider wall and started walking into a northbound lane of I-5. There, a 31-year-old man from La Jolla driving an Acura Sedan struck the man.

Shortly after, CHP pronounced the 26-year-old pickup driver from Bonita dead at the scene.

Meanwhile, the driver of the Acura remained at the scene and cooperated with the authorities.

San Diego officials are still working to identify the circumstances surrounding the pedestrian crash on Interstate 5. Once available, there will be more details.
