33-Year-Old Long Man Killed in Hit-and-Run near 14th Street
LONG BEACH, CA (August 7, 2024) – Guillermo Penaloza was arrested Friday night, after a deadly hit-and-run collision on Cherry Avenue and 14th Street.
The incident occurred at approximately 7:00 p.m.
Officers conducting “proactive patrols” spotted a Chevrolet Suburban SUV and had a brief verbal exchange with the driver.
The driver then fled the area at high speed. The Suburban subsequently collided with a four-door Saturn sedan traveling south on Cherry Avenue.
Paramedics transported the Saturn driver, a 33-year-old man from Long Beach, to a hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. His female passenger was also hospitalized and remains in critical condition. The Suburban’s driver fled the scene on foot but was later apprehended by authorities.
Police have booked 34-year-old Guillermo Penaloza, of Long Beach, into jail on charges of vehicular manslaughter, felony hit-and-run, and possession of a stolen vehicle, with bail set at $50,000.
