Madlib In Africa

It's been what — a week or two since the last Madlib release, or three? Guess that means we should have seen this coming.

Stones Throw has just shared the news that Beat Konducta in Africa — an MP3, CD, limited 2LP and extra-limited 3LP release that seems to be the next installment in both the Madlib Medicine Show series and his ongoing Beat Konducta explorations — will drop March 23.

The 37 (or 43) -track wonder is an all-instrumental work produced and mixed by Madlib with some assistance (we're guessing the scratchin' kind) from Beat Junkie original J. Rocc. According to the label, “this album bases itself on the obscure vinyl gems from the afro-beat, funk, psych-rock, garage-rock and soul movements of African countries as diverse as Zambia, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Ghana, Botswana and Ivory Coast.”

Madlib's little brother Oh No, with help from bean-brewer Intelligentsia, took an inspired trip to Africa late last year with his album Ethiopium, while Stones Throw label manager Egon recently released an excellent Fela Kuti-inspired compilation on his affiliated Now-Again Records. Both are essential, so we're guessing this new release will be a must-own as well.

Actually, Stones Throw has taken some of the guesswork out of it. Download two songs off of the forthcoming Madlib Medicine Show #3: Beat Konducta in Africa below, and check out several streaming tracks after the jump.
