Larkin Mackey and Joshua McBride, owners of Larkin's Joint, offer macaroni and cheese at their Eagle Rock restaurant. But clearly this was just a warm up for the partners, who are opening a to-go and delivery mac & cheese bar, a concept which has been in the works for several months. The soft opening for Mac & Cheeza is tonight during the Downtown Artwalk, and will give visitors a chance to build their own mac & cheese dishes and sample desserts created by Mackey's mother. There will be non-dairy options such as a soy cheese base, or the traditional three-cheese blend. You can choose from rice noodles or regular noodles and toppings such as collard greens, mushrooms, chorizo, veggie sausage and tuna (specialty items such as lobster are also available). Sizes to choose from are cleverly labeled–Baby Mac, Mama Mac, Daddy Mac, and Mac Daddy. The cozy space on 8th and Broadway only has about 400 square feet of room for customers, but for a few hours starting at 7 p.m., grab any seat you can find and take in as much cheesy goodness as your arteries can handle.

Mac & Cheeza: 223 West 8th Street, Los Angeles; (213) 622-3782.
