83-Year-Old Woman Pronounced Dead after SMART Train Collision in Novato

NOVATO, CA (February 15, 2023) – Late Monday morning, Lucy Lau Hom was pronounced dead following a train accident in Novato. The fatal incident happened around 11:20 a.m. on east Hamilton Parkway. According to initial reports, an eastbound vehicle failed to yield at a train crossing. Consequently, the car collided with a SMART train that was heading in a southbound direction. Investigators said the female driver did not acknowledge the flashing warning lights and activated crossing alarms, causing a collision. Unfortunately, 83-year-old Lucy Lau Hom, died at the scene despite the life-saving efforts of the paramedics. At this time, investigators are performing toxicology tests and post-mortem examinations to determine the manner of death. Novato officials continue to investigate the Hamilton Parkway train crash.
