Police are searching for the gunman who shot and killed 19-year-old Lovell May III January 28. May was shot around 9:45 p.m. Thursday as he was walking away from his friend's home near 78th Street and Brighton Avenue.

According to police reports, the suspect snuck up behind May and shot him several times in the torso. “It sounds like the suspect was lying in wait,” said LAPD detective Chris Barling. Barling said the shooting appeared to be gang-related. May was taken to a nearby hospital where he died 30 minutes later.
