PostSecret recently featured a postcard drawing of a nude woman sniffing a shirt with the text “When you left me/I stole your orange shirt/Keeping a part of you/Forever/A small price to pay/For my heart.” Long-term scent memories are almost unassailable, and tonight's “Pheromone Party” is a night to remember. A bicoastal dating phenomenon hosted by artist Judith Prays and scientific advisor Charles J. Wysocki, PhD. of the Monell Chemical Senses Center, it aims to link potential new lovers by the power of unwashed three-day-old white cotton T-shirts. Here's how it works: the T-shirts are placed in bags, numbered, and labeled pink and blue on a table. Attendees smell the contents of the bags, take a photograph with their desired bag and pay rapt attention to the photographs that are then projected on the wall. If your number is chosen, you may then speak to your chosen nose. If that doesn't work, say “Smell ya later!” and enjoy the primal screening of the Playboy-produced stinker The Naked Ape (dir. Donald Driver, 1973, 35mm), a Me Generation meditation on the powers of animal attraction. I wonder what Hef smells like these days! Cinefamily, 611 N. Fairfax Ave.; Thurs., Apr. 5, 8 p.m.; $15-$30.
