It started as an underground bacchanal for the techno-hippie set, but over the years the Love Festival has become a lot more. The 16th annual dance gathering is not only a celebration of the good vibes (and will) that exists in the dance music community, it also serves as a ground-breaking forum for new electronic music artists and innovators past. This year is no exception: Dirty South, Laidback Luke, Cedric Gervais, DJ Reza, Mark Farina, Junior Sanchez, Steve Aoki and Barry Weaver spin. L.A. Colliseum, 3939 S. Figueroa St., L.A.; Sat., Aug. 9, 7 p.m. See www.thelovefestival.com. The L.A.-based Droog Collective are throwing two equally techno-rific events this week. On Friday, Aug. 8, they’ll welcome U.K. sensations Jamie Jones (live) and Simon Baker to The Room. 1626 N. Cahuenga Blvd., Hlywd. On Sunday, Aug. 10, Jones jams again at a pool party along with Lee Foss and the Droog’s deckmen at the Standard Downtown rooftop. 550 S. Flower St., dwntwn.; 1-9 p.m. See www.myspace.com/droog_la. Also a don’t-miss: LCD Soundsystem/DFA Records’ James Murphy and Pat Mahoney bring their Special Disco Version party (all the rage in New York) and their bad selves to town for a Donuts/Black Disco bash (location TBA — see www.donutsparty.com or www.blackdisco.net) and, finally, for a Hard Fest–hosted hipster dipster at the Roosevelt Hotel’s Tropicana Bar & pool. 7000 Hollywood Blvd., Hlwyd; Sun., Aug. 10, noon-6 p.m. See https://www.hardfest.com/pool.html.
