Welcome to Los Angeles, fellow narcissist! You're one of us. But seriously, a study unleashed today says that having lots of Facebook friends is a strong signal of your narcissism. You better cut someone off, fast, and it better not be your mom.

The research …

… published in the March issue of Personality and Individual Differences, found that folks with lots of friends, frequent updates and plenty of self-tagged photos tend to display narcissistic traits.

Some of the most narcissistic people the research discovered had more than 800 friends.

The author, 30-year-old Western Illinois University assistant communication professor Christopher Carpenter, looked at 292 Facebook users, mostly college students:

Facebook, the study says, “offers a gateway for hundreds of shallow relationships and emotionally detached communication.”
