Los Angeles County will begin offering Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine to children ages 12 to 15 on Thursday, May 13.

Vaccines may now be administered to all people ages 12 and up in L.A. County, with Pfizer being the only producer authorized for children between 12 to 17.

“Starting tomorrow, Los Angeles County vaccination providers may begin offering the Pfizer vaccine for 12 to 15-year-olds at vaccination sites that offer the Pfizer vaccine,” L.A. Public Health said in a statement. “All eight county run sites will be open tomorrow and able to vaccinate children 12-17.”

The use of Pfizer’s vaccine on 12 to 15-year-olds was recommended by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Prevention Wednesday, just days after receiving emergency use authorization from the Food and Drug Administration.

“Though most children with COVID-19 have mild or no symptoms, some children can get severely ill and require hospitalization,” CDC Dircetor Rochelle Walensky said in a statement Wednesday. “There have also been rare, tragic cases of children dying from COVID-19 and its effects, including multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children, or MIS-C.”

Teens in L.A. County must be accompanied by an adult and have a photo ID present at time of vaccination. Several Los Angeles county and city sites are accepting walk-ins and a full list of providers who carry the Pfizer vaccine can be found on Public Health website.

L.A. County recorded 21 new deaths related to COVID-19 Wednesday, with 322 new positive cases and a total of 379 people hospitalized with COVID-19.
