Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa today said he put our hat in the ring for the 2024 Olympics. “I am pleased to confirm our enthusiastic interest in bidding to host the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games,” he wrote to the U.S. Olympic Committee.

… Magic Johnson, Tom Hanks, Anschutz Entertainment Group's Tim Leiweke, Disney chief Robert Iger and the L.A. Chamber of Commerce, among others.

Villaraigosa:

We are proud of our city's sports heritage and tradition and we stand ready to work with you to bring the Olympic games back to the United States.

Los Angeles 2024 Olympic bid by

The mayor notes in the letter that L.A. that there's already a 2024 Strategy Team under the Southern California Committee for the Olympic Games, which is chaired by Barry Sanders of L.A. Coliseum Commission fame.
