We laugh with a superior tone at friends who say this city or that city is big. Hah. They don't know big until they've seen greater Los Angeles spread out horizon to horizon from the seat of an airplane that just passed the San Bernardino Mountains (check out these photos). The metropolitan area is bigger, both geographically and in terms of population, than many states and even some countries. A recent New Yorker cartoon jokes that “Los Angeles Getting More Annoying as We Speak” and depicts a map of L.A. sprawling across the Southwest, Pacific Northweast and beyond. Check it out (via LA Curbed).
