According to a recent survey by PETA, Los Angeles is the 8th most vegetarian/vegan friendly city in North America. “Los Angeles residents should be proud that the City of Angels is on the cutting edge of healthy cuisine that is Earth- and animal-friendly,” PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman said in a statement, which cited Flore Vegan Cuisine, Real Food Daily, and The Veggie Grill as examples.

Washington D.C. took first place honors, followed by Portland, Oregon and Albuquerque, New Mexico. How can D.C. be more vegetarian than this, the tofu capital of the planet? We don't know.

For each city in North America, PETA took into account the number of vegetarian restaurants and vegetarian-friendly restaurants per capita; it also asked for input from PETA supporters and staff members on the quality of the options. According to the statement, the mayor and tourism bureau of each city that ranked among the top 10 in either category will receive a framed certificate and a letter of congratulations.
