Los Angeles City Treasurer Joya C. De Foor has left the job to take a position with the city of Atlanta as its Chief Financial Officer, Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa said Tuesday.

“For the past nine years, Joya De Foor has worked tirelessly to generate revenue, reduce costs, and increase efficiencies in the Los Angeles Treasury, while also gaining positive recognition and awards for the City,” Villaraigosa said.

She leaves at a tumultuous time in city finance, a few days before a much-anticipated fiscal year begins. The City Council had grappled with nearly $500 million in red ink but somehow balanced the budget by promising layoffs and accepting rosy estimates about revenues that might or might not come through.

“I wish Ms. De Foor much success and enjoyment in her new post as Chief Financial Officer for the city of Atlanta and congratulate her on a job well done,” the mayor said.
