What's up, doc? The famously mischievous rabbit graces the screen in the Bugs Bunny at the Symphony II event with live musical accompaniment by the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl tonight at 8 p.m., conducted by George Daugherty. Other Looney Tunes favorites making an appearance in this showcase of animation include two new 3-D cartoons: I Tawt I Taw a Puddy Tat (Tweety and Sylvester) and Coyote Falls (Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner). There will be an encore performance on Saturday at the same time.

Also on Friday, the Old Pasadena Film Festival returns for a four-week run of free movies, taking place at Central Park, One Colorado Courtyard and Distant Lands Bookstore. This year's event will focus on film noir and suspense films, starting with The Ring — the nightmare-inducing horror flick that made us afraid of videotapes and creepy, long-haired pale girls coming out of our television sets — tonight at 8:30 p.m. at Central Park. Also playing at the fest will be Graham Greene and Carol Reed's The Third Man, in which Holly Martins (Joseph Cotten) investigates his friend's (Orson Welles) supposedly accidental death, on July 20, also at Central Park at 8:30 p.m.

Saturday, July 6

Speaking of horror, a double feature of Stanley Kubrick's The Shining and the recent documentary Room 237 plays at the Aero at 7:30 p.m. After watching Danny explore the corridors of the haunted hotel on his trike and Jack Nicholson descend into murderous insanity, see the recent documentary exploring the many theories surrounding the film.

With more than 100 features, shorts and documentaries, the Downtown Film Festival Los Angeles returns for a nine-day run in a showcase of “feminism, Latino-American filmmakers and downtown L.A. culture and personalities.” Opening the event is documentary Who the F**k Is Arthur Fogel?, a biopic about the man behind some of the biggest international concert tours ever (including Madonna, U2 and Lady Gaga). The film schedule and locations can be found at dffla.com.

At dusk (around 8 p.m.), Moonlight Movies on the Beach hosts a free outdoor screening of classic musical Grease at Granada Beach in Long Beach. Relive good girl “Sandra Dee” (Olivia Newton-John) winning over bad boy Danny Zuko (John Travolta) and the cameo of our very own L.A. River in the memorable car-racing scene. Food and drinks will be available for purchase.
