Look Out for the Wee Beasties: Denton, TX band the Wee Beasties play at Alex’s Bar in Long Beach on Thursday, and then at the Redwood in Downtown L.A. on Saturday, April 1. Keep Flying, College Radio and Fresh Veggies also play at Alex’s, while the Poppy Seeds, Free Paintings and Sour Tongue open at the Redwood.

The band, they say, fuse hardcore punk with jazz.

“After decades of line-up changes, lifetime bans, sparse releases and a prison sentence, the band came rolling into the 2020s with a plan to take their sideshow punk act across the country promoting their upcoming release Party With UsThe Wee-Beasties’ shows have included BDSM demonstrations, Chippendales costumes, punk rock burlesque performances and a heroic consumption of whiskey and countless cans of Lone Star beer (or whatever beer is cheapest in your town). The larger-than-life, beer-guzzling, singer Richard Haskins is known for performing mostly (if not completely) naked, making for a wild show that has gotten them banned from almost every club in their hometown.”

They continue, “Despite their bad reputation, the band is surprisingly well-organized and diverse, consisting of drums, two guitars, a bass and a colorful cast of horn players. The band could easily be a cacophonous mess without the help of the best and brightest musicians from Denton’s highly-praised music scene.”

Sounds like the sort of band you might want to check out twice.

Look Out for the Wee Beasties: The event takes place at 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 30 at Alex’s Bar; then at 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 1 at the Redwood Bar & Grill.
