Every night there's something going on at Food Network star chef Jill Davies' Mar Vista. Sunday brunch comes with music, beet chips, homemade sangria, bottomless mimosas and such seasonal specialties as the smoked salmon–loaded potato with trout roe and the gooey mushroom toast with sunny-side-up eggs. Tuesday night is burger night, featuring a chorizo burger, and Thursday is an uni lover's dream, with live Santa Barbara sea urchins arriving in mounds. The cranked bowls here are legendary, made with frozen fruit hand-cranked through an old sausage machine and then combined with mint, basil, Nutella, pomegranate and vanilla meringue. Same goes for the sizzling hot pots — black rice and farro with corn, black-eyed peas, eggplant, kale and shiitake broth topped with house-made beet chips; or the pork pot, with korubuta shoulder, rice, squash and noodles. You never know what to expect in live music, anything from jazz to banjos to DJs. Sometimes an artist may be onstage, painting to the music. Mutts are welcome on the dog-friendly patio, and if you want takeout for lunch during the week, MV Grab & Go is right across the street. —Michele Stueven
