The burlesque impresario and Forty Deuce proprietor expands his empire further at this French-style bistro and live-music club in the center of Hollywood. The decor is opulent, with mirrors, red velvet curtains and antique furniture adorning a room that surrounds a grand piano. The swanky joint features a large wine and champagne list, an absinthe bar in the mezzanine, and house spirits served in special brown bags. The menu offers French appetizers and entrees, including bouillabaisse, charcuterie, escargot, duck confit and barley risotto. Given Kane's reputation as a pioneer in sensual entertainment, it's no surprise that Cafe Was' burlesque shows have a classier vibe than some of the other revues in town, but the live entertainment also includes regular jazz and pop performances, most of them centered around the intimate bistro's beautiful piano lounge. Parking is available on the street and in the adjoining shopping center at Sunset & Vine.
