Surf's up, and so is Jack Johnson's domination of the saleable-sappy-soft-surf singer-songwriter market. The 35-year-old Hawaiian feel-gooder's new album is called “To the Sea” (perhaps you've heard the cloying single “You and Your Heart”), out next week, and that's where Johnson is going tonight. His has an 8 p.m. show at the Santa Monica Pier — it's for Heal the Bay — and although tickets are gone for that, the show will be broadcast on a big video screen facing the south side of the pier. (Or you can watch it from your suburban home via Ustream.) It's an alcohol- and smoke-free event, folks — keep it clean, enjoy Mr. Johnson's vibe.

Elsewhere: It's famous friends night at Sweethead's residency at Spaceland. Queens of the Stone age were rumored to be playing in support of guitarist's Troy Van Leeuwen's side project, now they say they're not. But Alain Johannes (QOTSA, Them Crooked Vultures) is, and several items in the blogosphere report that Raconteurs Dean Fertita and Brendan Benson are Silver Lake-bound tonight. It's free, so it's probably worth the hang time to see who shows up. … The Like's residency continues at the Echo (Tijuana Panthers support), as does War Tapes' stand at the Silverlake Lounge (with Denver's the Swayback). … And Japanese girl-rockers Noodles play the Bootleg Theater, with Boyz Skule and the Precious Medals opening.

Also: Minus the Bear and Shout Out Louds at Pomona's Fox Theater; Infant Sorrow and Friends (Russell Brand, Jonah Hill and the Libertines Carl Barat) doing music from “Get Him to the Greek” at the Roxy; Heart at the Grammy Museum; Fyfe Dangerfield and Carney at the RSVP-only School Night at Bardot; the New Limb at the Hotel Cafe; Dead Panda at the Viper Room; and Venus Illuminato at the Mint.
