Last year's Live Arts Exchange Festival was wildly experimental, kaleidoscopically eclectic, and thoroughly enjoyed by critics and audiences alike. Obviously, they're doing it again this year. It arrives at the Bootleg in style with Thursday's launch party, an expanded (40-artist) version of The Series, those strange and wonderful multidisciplinary experiences that formerly graced the roof of the downtown Standard. In the following evenings, a rotating program offers up a panoply of performance artists, musicians, dancers, video and theater artists. From a deconstructed Captain Kirk video avatar, to a new dance piece by Meg Wolfe, to forays into real-time motion-capture visual theater, every show has its fine points, so go early and often. Tickets are more or less $20 each, but there are sweet bundles to be had for the ambitious culturati. Bootleg Theater, 2220 Beverly Blvd., Echo Park; Thu., Sept. 11-Sun., Sept. 21; tickets $15-$20; passes $50-$100. (213) 389-3856, liveartsexchange.org.
