If Richard Linklater’s Boyhood wasn’t a comprehensive enough portrait of childhood for you, try UCLA’s free 35mm screening of Little Fugitive in the Billy Wilder Theater at 11 a.m. The 1953 film, about a boy who absconds to Coney Island after a prank gone awry makes him think he’s slain his older brother, runs a scant 75 minutes and seems a lighthearted way to end the weekend. UCLA’s website notes that the film is recommended for children ages 9 and older, so you may want to reconsider your plans to bring the 8-year-old along.
