There may be a new rap production powerhouse on the rise: Oberst-Ward-James-Mogis, collectively known as … J-Ward Mo'burst?

Okay, so that last part was wildly apocryphal, but when L.A. art-rap staple Busdriver flips the Monsters of Folk track “Dear God (Sincerely M.O.F.)” into something worth rapping over, well, it really is worth rapping over.

Just ask Project Blowed emcee Open Mike Eagle (excuse the name), who lays down a verse over the deeply soulful, strum-happy track. Never one to miss an opportunity to wax prolific, Busdriver also delivers a syllabically rich rap or two.

His version of the M.O.F. track is called “Deer God” (hence the slightly terrifying art above) and it hails from an upcoming mixtape dubbed Computer Cooties.

We admit we were remiss in not hipping you to the earlier leak from the Busdriver mixtape, in which the rubber-voiced vocalist gets wide, wide open over Flying Lotus' “Computer Face/Pure Being.” There's a stream of that here, and a little Googling will no doubt reveal a download link.

As for this latest track, Bus-a-Bus says via press release that he's “maimed it and cohearsed it into doing my bidding … We take the original subject matter (dealing in the trepidations of god-fearing folk) and replace it with a series of questions concerning faith via wild accusations and finger pointing. Yay! Concious rap!”

He also adds, “Of course, this is all inspired by the Roots rendition off of their latest studio album, How I Got Over. I just hope that the off-branded cynicism and tomfoolery of our version has added something to the conversation.”

Decide for yourself.
