We're early on this one, but with good reason.

On November 20, L.A. indie label Manimal Vinyl will release the debut, self-titled EP of ASKA, a.k.a. Aska Matsumiya, and this long-lead MP3 leak is a gorgeous sign of things to come.

A pop gem in the label's impressive experimental rough, ASKA has more in common with Manimal's early success story, Bat For Lashes, than it does contemporaries like the just-announced Swahili Blonde project.

ASKA herself is a local, having been seen around town singing with Moonrats, the Sads, and Beck Stark's L.A. Ladies Choir.

You also might remember her from her collaboration with Flea and Yeah Yeah Yeahs' Nick Zinner for that Spike Jonze short film, I'm Here.

ASKA is also a classically trained pianist and talented multi-instrumentalist with a lovely, trance-inducing voice, which makes the title of this stunning West Coast Sound exclusive, “Love Trance,” all the more apt.

A pending full-length looks to include “guests such as Nick Dewitt (Pretty Girl Make Graves), Lucky Dragons, Kitty Jensen, Nathan Thelen (moonrats) and Money Mark,” but best we can tell, this song is all ASKA.
