Amid the annual flurry of Sugar Plum Fairies and enchanted Nutcrackers, another seasonal tale vies for attention as California Contemporary Ballet returns with The Snow Queen , based on the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale. Randall Michael Tobin composed the original score and artistic director Erin Holt choreographed Andersen's story of a young girl's adventures with gypsies and princesses on a courageous journey to save a friend held captive by the Snow Queen. The company's professional dancers are supplemented by students from the troupe's youth ballet.
