LAX's Food-Centric Tom Bradley Terminal Is Officially Here

If you haven't been following along with this headline already, here's a quick primer: LAX put $2 billion into building a new international terminal, then they started asking amazing L.A. restaurants to come be a part of the landscape. Lots of great chefs said yes, then there was a black-tie gala, and *boom* now here we are, with the spankin' new Tom Bradley International Terminal less than one week away from opening.

While your average eater won't have access to the main concourse that houses all of these great eats — it's humbly known as the “Great Hall” — the 60 or so restaurants and retailers will be available to anyone with a boarding pass. Is there going to be one of those overpriced Hudson News shops that only sells gum, magazines and neck pillows? Probably. But there's also going to be a Campanile.

So what else can you expect at the Tom Bradley Terminal? The Umami-backed fast pizza mini-chain 800 Degrees will be slinging Neapolitan-style pies for hungry travelers. And not to be outdone, Umami Burger itself will have a presence inside the terminal. Mary Sue Milliken and Susan Feniger's Border Grill will offer cochinita pibil and ceviches, while Chaya Brasserie tackles fresh fish themselves with an assortment of sushi. The Russian-by-way-of-Robertson eatery Petrossian won't be doing full lunches; instead, they plan on focusing their menu to distinct caviars and related baked goods for the quick-snacking set.

Of course, Michael Voltaggio's ink.sack sandwich shop will probably be the most popular with shuffling travelers, given the size and price point of his takeaway sandwiches. And what delayed flight wouldn't be made just a little more tolerable with some cupcakes, cookies and brownies from Short Cake. Once again, the international jet setting crowd will be eating better than the rest of us!

The Tom Bradley International Terminal at LAX is scheduled to open to the public on Wednesday, September 18th. So if you've been itching to try one of Michael Voltaggio's cold-fried chicken sandwiches, but just haven't been able to make it down to ink.sack's Melrose location, consider hopping a flight to Bora Bora instead. At least you'll eat well in the terminal.
