As Mayor Eric Garcetti gave a COVID-19 update, Monday, he revealed that LAX will be offering PCR (nasal swab) tests at Tom Bradley International Terminal, as well as Terminals 2 and 6, with results arriving in 24 hours.

Garcetti said this would be an initial run before getting a more robust testing lab running in December.

“This is the first step to the full testing facility and lab that will open there during the first week of December,” Garcetti said. “To be clear, don’t travel unless you must.”

In September, it was announced that LAX would be offering PCR, rapid and antigen testing to passengers and employees, while the airport already implemented thermal camera screening technology to track potential elevated temperatures in travelers and having medical personnel attend to them if necessary.

Garcetti reiterated Gov. Gavin Newsom’s pleas for Californians to not travel for the holidays unless it is for business. Garcetti also urged that holiday gatherings be capped at no more than three households, with masks being worn outside of eating or drinking.

Day-to-day positive cases of COVID-19 have more than doubled since early October, and Monday saw 2,795 new cases with six deaths, bringing the county’s overall totals to 342,343 cases with 7,275 deaths.
