LAX shooting suspect Paul Ciancia was released from Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center yesterday, UCLA officials said today in a statement.

The U.S. Attorney's Office added that Ciancia, charged with murder of a federal agent, was “released from a hospital and is now in the custody of the United States Marshals Service”:

“No details about his custody status or location are being released at this time,” U.S. Attorney's spokesman Thom Mrozek said.

No court dates have been scheduled, he added.

The 23-year-old from Southern New Jersey was charged not only with killing a federal agent but with committing the Nov. 1 attack at an international airport. He could face a capital case, but federal prosecutors have yet to decide whether to pursue that route.

Ciancia was wounded following the 9:20 a.m. rampage at LAX, which took the life of Gerardo Hernandez and injured at least four others, including two other TSA workers, authorities said.

The suspect was shot by responding airport police within about four minutes of the beginning of the rampage, officials said. He was wounded enough — in critical condition — that federal investigators said they couldn't interview him.

And now that he has a public defender, feds might not ever get to do that.

Reports indicate Ciancia had a note expressing hatred for the federal government and the TSA in a bag, which also held the assault-type rifle he's alleged to have used that morning.
