Woman Pronounced Dead, 2-Year-Old Daughter Hospitalized after Collision near Mile Post 16

TUCSON, AZ (October 19, 2021) – Sunday morning, Laura Rodriguez was killed, and her 2-year-old daughter was hurt in a car crash.

According to reports, Rodriguez was driving a Toyota Camry south on Mt. Lemmon Highway with her 2-year-old daughter in the back seat.

Around 9:45 a.m., the vehicle suddenly went over an embankment and down the mountainside.  Investigators say neither of them were wearing a seat belt at the time. As a result, both Rodriguez and her daughter were thrown from the vehicle.

Medics pronounced 42-year-old Rodriguez dead at the scene, due to the extent of her condition. Meanwhile, the 2-year-old girl was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Moreover, the surrounding area was closed for a brief time during preliminary duties. Although, the road has since reopened.

Further circumstances leading up to the accident have not yet been made available.
