L.A. Controller Laura Chick has been named by Governor Schwarzenegger to the newly minted office of Inspector General that will oversee the spending of the state's $50 billion of federal stimulus money. The job will make her a supercharged magnet for both media attention and political supplicants. Chick earned a reputation as an aggressive watchdog while in Los Angeles and is expected to bring her characteristic disregard for political reputations to Sacramento.

Chick's term as city controller does not end until July; her position here will be assumed by Rushmore Cervantes.
