The cocktails flowed freely at Saturday night's Union Station Speakeasy Cocktail Party. Organized by the Weekly's own Jonathan Gold as a fundraiser for Zócalo Public Square, the 1920s-themed shindig featured nine L.A. restaurants dishing out appetizers and five bars, all owned by Cedd Moses, mixing retro-inspired cocktails.

Would-be flappers mingled with foodists, chefs and culture vultures — not easy to do when you're balancing a plate of pork croissants (Jar) and a classic Pikesville Manhattans (Cole's) or a cup of Rivera's garlicky, yellow tomato gazpacho and a glass of Las Perlas' spicy PaQui tequila cocktail.

The gorgeous architecture of Union Station always makes me feel like I'm traipsing through a sexier, darker, more dramatic version of my real life. Closing out the night, we ran into a gang of BMX bicycle riders who might have been plucked from the set of a teen action movie, circa 1984. One more reason to love Los Angeles.
