When it rains it pours at the Smell, and though we didn't make it to see Calvin Johnson last night (too busy at CSU being totally floored by Mulatu Astatke's memorable set of Ethio jazz), tonight's semi-on-the-sly, somewhat last minute Gang Gang Dance show at the Smell promises to be pretty excellent, especially for those of us forced to miss last month's El Rey show.

GGD, from NYC, trade in rhythm, hypnosis and texture, and play tonight with the ever-fascinating, uber prolific Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti, fresh off landing a slot at this year's Coachella.

Also on the bill is LA's Nite Jewel, who have something out on the excellent Italians for Beginners imprint. That show is tonight at the Smell.
