LAPD released body cam footage of a February 11 arrest, where a hit-and-run suspect was taken down while holding a baby.

According to LAPD, 25-year-old Josue Huerta was allegedly seen erratically driving a silver Jeep Wrangler on the corner of Long Beach Avenue and East 55th Street.

As officers followed the car, they said Huerta crashed into a flatbed truck and drove off, leading to an 11-minute chase.

Huerta was said to have then exited the vehichle and fled on foot.

Police caught up to Huerta, who had an infant in-hand, and an officer “used his body weight to take him down on the grass lawn.”

The graphic footage shows LAPD officers giving chase to Huerta, before taking him down on grass.

A baby can then be heard crying in the LAPD video, with Huerta crying and saying, “I’m sorry, I was trying to take him home.”

The child was taken to a hospital, where he was found to have a skull fracture on the right side of his head.

According to LAPD, the infant tested positive for both cocaine and fentanyl and was released to his mother.

“Unbeknownst to any officer, the suspect was holding a 10-month-old infant,” LAPD said in its narrative for the video. “Officers were immediately able to pick up the infant and secure him.”

Although it is not clear how the skull fracture occurred, an internal investigation is underway, as the officer’s use of force “cannot be ruled out as the cause of the injury.”

The officers on scene allege they recovered narcotics, 9 mm gun magazines and cash inside the car Huerta was driving.

Officers then took Huerta into custody and he was later charged by the L.A. County District Attorney’s Office with one count of felony child abuse, one county of felony evading, one count of felony possession of narcotics for sale, and one count of misdemeanor hit-and-run.
