The Los Angeles Police Department is warning Cinco de Mayo revelers to keep it safe and sane, because they've got four DUI checkpoints planned through the weekend.

“Cinco de Mayo has become a traditional time for many to celebrate California's rich cultural history,” the department states on its website. “But it is also a night out with expected dangers when someone chooses to drink and drive. Party hosts, bars and restaurants this year must be sure to plan and promote designating sober drivers in advance – before the fiesta begins.” The planned checkpoints include the following days and locations:

-Wednesday, 6 p.m. to 12 a.m., somewhere in the LAPD's Northeast Area, which includes Los Feliz, Silver Lake, Highland Park, Mt. Washington, Glassell Park, part of Echo Park, Chinatown, Elysian Park, and more.

-Friday, 7 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., somewhere in the LAPD's Newton Area, which occupies zones just south of downtown and east of USC.

-Friday, 9 p.m. to 3 a.m., somewhere in the LAPD's North Hollywood Area.

-Saturday, 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. in the LAPD's Hollywood Area.
