Updated at the bottom: The suspect was found dead inside the home, police say.

An LAPD officer was injured after a man opened fire on her in Laurel Canyon, police said. Authorities, including a SWAT team, were in a standoff with that suspect this afternoon, they said.

Reports indicated the cop took fragments of wood and was not directly shot, but the LAPD could not confirm that for us. LAPD Chief Charlie Beck said the officer “is doing well.”

LAPD Officer Richard French told the Weekly that the injuries “don't appear to be life-threatening:”

The attack happened after officers arrived at a multi-story home in the 8200 block of Gould Avenue shortly after 8 a.m., police said. The cops were responding to a domestic disturbance call, they said.

A suspect at the home opened fire with a handgun, French said. He said it wasn't clear if the responding officers returned fire, but police were treating the situation as an officer-involved shooting, he said.

L.A. Fire Department spokeswoman Katherine Main said two patients were transported from the scene about 9:03 a.m. The LAPD's French said it initially appeared a second patient in the area was not connected to the shooting and was not an officer.

The suspect, meanwhile, didn't comply with police and a standoff ensued. An LAPD SWAT team was at the scene trying to coax the guy out. The LAPD's West Bureau was on tactical-alert status, which allows for maximum staffing, French said.

Laurel Canyon Boulevard was closed in the area.

[Update at 1 p.m.]: Members of the LAPD SWAT team at the scene entered the home and found the suspect dead, Officer Wendy Reyes told us. That happened about 12:30 p.m., she said.

It wasn't clear if the man had been shot and, if so, by whom, she said.
