An LAPD officer was arrested in Huntington Beach on charges related to possession and distribution of child pornography.

Long Beach PD released a statement saying that officer James Diamond, 52, allegedly distributed or shared online material relating to child sexual abuse and was identified by its Long Beach PD’s Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce after receiving a tip from an missing children nonprofit organization.

“In October of 2020, detectives from the Long Beach Police Department’s Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce received a CyberTip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children regarding possible online distribution or sharing of child sexual abuse material,” the Long Beach PD statement said. “During their investigation, detectives gathered sufficient information to identify the suspect and develop probable cause for an arrest.”

After search warrants were set for Diamond’s home and work, he was was taken into custody outside of a local business Wednesday morning and booked on two felony counts each of possession of child pornography and distribution of obscene matter depicting a minor.

LAPD noted the information is still preliminary as the investigation is ongoing.

Diamond’s bail was set at $100,000.
