UPDATE at 1:05 a.m., Wednesday, April 1, 2015: A coroner's official said the cause of death appeared to be “natural.” See more at the bottom.

Andrew Getty, the grandson of oil tycoon J. Paul Getty, was found dead in his Hollywood Hills home today, according to reports.

The Los Angeles Police Department had yet to confirm the identity of the deceased. But Officer Jack Richter did tell us that a death investigation was under way at a home in the 2900 block of Montcalm on the Valley side of the Hollywood Hills.

Police received a death report at 2:18 p.m., he said.

“A female called and said someone had died in the house,” Richter said.

Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Robert Hinojosa says paramedics responded to a report of a “medical emergency” at that location at 2:19 p.m. He said it wasn't clear if police or a private citizen made that call.

TMZ reported that Getty, 47, sustained “traumatic injury to the rectal area and paramedics found significant bleeding.” The publication says he had a tumultuous relationship with an ex-girlfriend, who had allegedly broken into the home numerous times.

The site says the ex was being detained as a “possible witness/suspect.”

UPDATE at 1:05 a.m., Wednesday, April 1, 2015: Coroner's Assistant Chief Ed Winter told reporters outside the home last night that the cause of death “appears to be natural or an accident.”

He said that Getty “was not feeling good for the last couple months” and had a doctor's visit scheduled.
