The Los Angeles Police Department and its historic struggles to transform its relationship with the city's ethnic communities is the focus of an ABC documentary to air Sunday.

The one-hour doc by Pierre Bagley, called LAPD … Transforming the Dream, will air at 2 p.m. It's expected to feature a look back at the department's tense relationship with people of color (a relationship that culminated in two historic riots) and forward to its present detente in which the majority of LAPD officers are, in fact, minorities.

New LAPD Chief Charlie Back makes an appearance and speaks about his own efforts to reform the department “from the bottom up.”
