The Enterprise Report states that Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck received free tickets to the Academy Awards, attended with a guest and met up there with Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, who's now the focus of three inquiries into his acceptance of valuable tix to such events.

Los Angeles Police Department spokeswoman Mary Grady confirms the chief's acceptance of the tickets to the Report, stating, “Yes he did.”

“The chief will report it when he files his ethics forms with the city and state,” she stated. “The chief will pay for the cost of the tickets if there is any and it is required.”

Chief Beck is bound by political ethics rules? Who knew. He was appointed, not elected. And if the mayor can claim he was undertaking official duties at such happenings, certainly Beck can: He had a good slice of his force in and around the event location that evening.

Right about now, Beck is probably regretting hitching his wagon to Villaraigosa's star. The mayor appears to be getting in deeper and deeper when it comes to ticketgate. Just Tuesday we reported that the state Fair Political Practices Commission is investigating the mayor's acceptance of 80 tickets to the Oscars, the Grammys, Lakers games, Dodgers games and other events.

The Weekly determined that the tix could be worth $50,000 or more. City and state law prohibits elected leaders from accepting gifts worth more than $420 from people who do business with their governments.
