Lina LecaroThe buzz on Lady Gaga's “Born This Way” has been deafening since pretty much the first time she uttered those three little words (during her meat dress-garbed acceptance speech at the 2010 MTV Music Video Awards).
The unicorn tattoo, the Mugler “Zombie Boy” video, and on Monday, the ravenous retweets of fashion director Nicola Formichetti and makeup artist Bill Brasfield about the Born clip, not to mention the new countdown clock on L.G.'s website: We're sure the imagery and music will be as avant-everything as the popstar intends, but will the meaning behind these words get lost in the arty glitz blitz? They have been significant to gays long before the Lady got loud and proud, after all, and as a supporter, she surely knows it.
“Born Gay- Born This Way” a new blog site created by L.A. DJ Paul V. (Bootie LA, Dragstrip 66), will hopefully serve to remind the interwebs what the words are really all about. It invites “gay adults (male and female) to submit pictures from their childhood with snapshots that capture them, innocently, showing the beginnings of their innate LGBT selves.”

The site features lots of fun pics of adorable little fellows in mommy's clothes and femme poses, but what makes it really illuminating is the accompanying anecdotal essays about each subject's childhood. Remember that Mommy Blog post that went viral around Halloween time about the kid who dressed up as Daphne from Scooby Do? These posts are just as touching and funny and inspiring.
At the Dragstrip 66 reunion this past Saturday at the Echoplex, V. told us he had the name for the site in mind before the Gaga record was announced. Obviously the connection doesn't hurt. The site is exploding, and we're guessing it's as much about the unique content as it is about title. The Lady would surely approve.
Dragstrip marked its 18th year (and first year since the club closed) with a school-themed “classless reunion” and live show by one of our faves, Tranzkontinental, and we give both the bash and the band (which featured mean/queen girls Rhea Litre, Kelly Mantle, Detoxx, Willam and Momma up front and some new go-go girlies) an A+.
