Lady Gaga denounced Arizona's controversial immigration measure, Senate Bill 1070 Saturday at a concert in Phoenix. Gaga played Phoenix despite urging by activist groups and other musicians to boycott playing the state. Instead, she used her show as a platform for her own political stance against SB 1070.

Before the show she tweeted, “Tonight we will continue to actively protest social and political injustices in Arizona. We will sing, we will stand up, + we will be heard” then during the show she said:

“I got a phone call from some really big rock and rollers, big pop stars, big rappers. And they said, 'We'd like you to boycott playing Arizona because of SB 1070.' And I said, 'You really think that us dumb fucking pop stars are gonna collapse the economy in Arizona? I'll tell you what we have to do about SB1070. We have to be active. We have to actively protest… Do not be afraid, because with out all of you immigrants this country wouldn't have shit.”

Political statements while wearing a skeleton hand, see-through plastic dress, and holding a fake Olympic-style torch?

That's soooo Gaga.

Watch the video of Gaga and read part of her statement after the jump.

Do you think Gaga should have played in Arizona? Do you think her statement was genuine, or do you think she was trying to justify her performance? Please let us know what you think in the comments. Thanks!

And the nature of the Monster Ball is to actively protest prejudice and injustice and that bullshit that is put on our society, because you are a superstar no matter who you are or where you come from and you were born that way! I will not cancel my show, I will yell and I will scream louder, I will hold you, and we will hold each other and we will peaceably protest this state. Do not be afraid, because with out all of you immigrants this country wouldn't have shit.”
