Welcome to summer in Los Angeles. Time to go to the beach, monitor your backyard fire and BBQ hazards — and eat pancakes with us at Vibiana. LA Weekly's third annual Pancake Breakfast is returning this August 11, curated by your favorite pie and radio personality Evan Kleiman. You'll have the opportunity to eat breakfast, lots of it, and wander around downtown's beautiful deconsecrated cathedral in a glorious caffeinated haze. This year we're also doing something even more fun than packing chefs and baristas and hungry people into a church: We're holding a pancake recipe contest!

So consider this a call for submissions to everyone in this town with an awesome pancake recipe. That means not just amateur pastry chefs and mothers who have gotten down their recipes after years of breakfasts, although of course we want those too — but also dads, hipsters, errant frat boys, the 10-year-olds who cook breakfast half the time anyway and all you people who are secretly building breakfast food trucks in your garage.

Readers should submit their own recipes to pancakes@laweekly.com by July 17 for a chance to cook and serve your very own awesome pancakes live at our event. We'll painstakingly sort through the recipes and determine winners. So yep, you too can realize your dream of cooking in public for crowds of hungry people. Maybe put on a pink chef's jacket. Pretend you're Sherry Yard at an Oscar party.

LA Weekly's 2013 Pancake Breakfast will be held at Vibiana on August 11 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tickets are $30, and partial proceeds benefit Project Angelfood. Presale is on now through Wed. night, June 12. (Code: PB13LAW.) Regular sale begins Thursday June 13 at 10 a.m.
