LA WeeklyWe're bringing back Artopia — our celebration of cutting-edge L.A. visual and performance artists — for its third year.
On Thursday, April 30, from 8 to 11 p.m., Angelenos will gather at the Container Yard in downtown L.A. for live art, music, fashion, shopping, artisanal cocktails and food trucks.
Event curator and L.A. Weekly contributor Shana Nys Dambrot has programmed a range of artists, including the return of Victor Wilde and the Bohemian Society’s live body-painting performance and Debi Cable’s 3-D art gallery. Mud Baron, an artist, teacher and farmer, will bring his photography project #Flowersonyourhead, in which he gets strangers to pose for photos with, yes, flowers on their heads. There will be live-painting from the graffiti artist Mikael B., performance art from Amy Kaps and Marcus Kuiland-Nazario, and beats from KCRW DJ Jeremy Sole. Newly-announced names include photo-realistic muralist Drew Merritt, painter Wyatt Mills and graffiti artists Robert “Dytch 66” Gomez and Vyal.

The food and drink selection will include beer, wine, cocktails by mixologists Francois Vera of Pour Vous and Ben Scott of Harlowe, the Grilled Cheese Truck, Kogi BBQ and Border Grill truck. The Artisan Village will include vendors selling handcrafted art and gifts, including Roots Revival Co., Cowpunk Leather Products, the Tin Man, Maya Silk Art, Downtown Muse, Human Tree Robot, Chruch of Type, Detroit Trash, Arts District Printing Co., The Fenix, Dejavita and Big Squeeze Press.
